THE ORIGINAL INFLUENCER
How would today’s media cover Jesus?
What would Twitter say about a man leading calls for social justice while miraculously healing the sick and raising the dead?
#Radical #Savior #Dangerous #God
We have cable news wars, millionaire social influencers, and everything from TikTok to talk radio. All of this content is both informing and misinforming during this historic time of global pandemic and social unrest.
It’s a lot of media, and a lot of it’s not good.
Which brings me back to the most famous man who ever lived (some even call *that* fake news).
“Top Story Tonight: Jesus!” is broken into two mini-seasons, Christmas and Easter. The podcast retells the biblical stories of Jesus as though today’s crazed media landscape existed in the first century. We even have commercials!
--In the Christmas story, the shepherds Instagram live as angels appear to announce the birth of a new king, while King Herod tweets angrily about “fake news” at 3am.
--In the Easter story, the devil is interviewed by someone who sounds a lot like Alex Jones, a Joe Rogan character asks the disciples if they smoke weed, and Mary Magdalene tries to livestream the open tomb.
In between scripted “breaking news” segments, you’ll hear interviews with*real* people who explain what we know about Jesus—including mentions of him outside the Bible—and what we have to take on faith.
Fun fact: Jesus was from Galilee, and Galileans were from the north. They had their own accent, and people in Jerusalem looked down on them as country bumpkins.
Another fun fact: King Herod saved the ancient Olympics from financial ruin and was named the Games’ president for life.
Talk about timely! We are in the middle of the greatest social unrest in half a century. Jesus of Nazareth was a rebel who upended the traditional power structure.
This podcast is entertaining, educational and thought-provoking, regardless of your views on faith, religion, history, or God.
